We have consistently dedicated our resources so that our education priorities are accomplished. Through our parent company, Lyles Diversified, we sponsor the Lyles Construction Lab at Purdue University and provide leadership on the California State University Fresno CM Advisory Board. For students in Construction Management and Engineering degree programs, Kaweah Construction Co. offers competitive internship and co-op opportunities. We provide students with an excellent learning environment to sharpen their project management skills. Generally, our intern opportunities are part-time for a semester or quarter term. They are very flexible in the amount of hours per week as well as the construction specialty that the student will learn. The Co-Op program is a three to six month full-time senior-oriented position were the student is provided with a chance to really get the feel of active project management. The student is allowed to develop within many different construction specialties and is provided with applicable responsibilities depending on past construction experience. Kaweah Construction Co. takes pride in providing on-campus recruiting presentations and interviews to several colleges each year. The dinner or lunch presentations generally offer students the chance to get to know our company as well as provide an excellent opportunity for immediate interviews. Project Engineer The duties of an entry level Project Engineer at Kaweah Construction Co. revolve around learning the construction process through bidding and managing construction projects. Bidding and managing construction projects in today's competitive climate is very challenging. The Project Engineer position is designed as an entry level position leading toward project management. Many of the duties are designed to develop the skills required for project management. We tend to avoid specialization and focus on learning and developing the skills that will eventually be required of project management. During the first month of employment, the entry level Project Engineer will actually work on several field crews, meeting our foremen and getting to know firsthand, the type of work we do. Additional management skills will be added over a two year training period. These skills include timekeeping, cost control, scheduling, safety, quality control, submittals, estimating, change orders, purchasing, labor relations, contract interpretation, and time management. You will be challenged to learn a great deal in a short period of time. It is our goal to assist you in any way we can to make your training period a successful transition on your road to successful construction project management. Project Manager We tend to emphasize intensive onsite project management. Project management requires a wide range of skills. It has been stated that a Project Manager must make 160 decisions a day, 3 to 4 times as many as contemporaries in other industries. Project management requires the ability to see the big picture as well as focus on the details which make a project a success. We believe that the best projects are those where all parties work very closely together focusing on the project goals. People skills are essential for success with Owners, Engineers, Construction Managers, Suppliers, Subcontractors, and our own field crews. The synergistic combination of the skills that our field crews and project managers bring to the project has created our firm's success. Our Project Managers are given a great deal of responsibility and authority to manage their projects. Our project office is on the construction site and is complete with all the office resources needed to completely manage the project from the field location. Our Project Managers typically are involved in the bid process for their own projects, complete the project setup and buyout, and manage the project from start to finish. This approach requires a mastery of many different aspects of construction, but results in a tremendous sense of accomplishment when project goals are accomplished. Field Employees Kaweah Construction Co. is a union firm signatory to the Carpenters, Millwrights, Laborers, and Cement Masons. We employ apprentices, journeymen, and foremen in these construction unions. Our foremen typically run a composite field crew necessary in the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities. We self perform in the areas of concrete formwork, concrete placement, pipe installation, and equipment setting. We consider our foremen and key individuals to be the most capable and best trained in industry. We seek new field employees that are able to travel and enjoy the special challenges of construction.
